We're heading to Lima for Christmas in a few weeks to visit my in-laws. My wife informed me, in a very serious tone, that the Venezuelans are responsible for an uptick in street crime and to be careful.
Ahem. So I'm rolling my eyes as I write this and suppressing a giggle. Apparently Peruvians have sworn off petty thievery and left it to the Venezuelans. That's a relief.
In all seriousness, is petty thievery or outright armed robbery any worse than any other time in the recent past?
This is not my first Peruvian rodeo. I've been traveling there, off and on, for the last 20+ years. Last there in 2014.
