Keeping US citizenship

My family is moving in May to Manila. We are planning on this to be a move for good. I am wondering if every so often do we need to go back to the US to keep our citizenship? Can we lose it by living in a different country? From what I understand, after a while we could lose our citizenship. Is this true?
