I currently live in Colombia and for the most part I like it but it has major flaws, like a high crime rate.
I am a writer and photographer but, while there are no constraints on writing, wandering around with a nice camera setup here will get you robbed in any of the cities. Overall I just don’t feel free here.
I have reached a juncture where I will either take big steps in building a better base and putting down some roots or moving to try other lands. I am going on my 3rd year here. Prior to coming here I lived for 2 years in China. I liked China but the language and culture were just too big a barrier. My Spanish is ok but the idea of the PIs where most speak English is very attractive.
I have to be very budget conscious as I live on my SS and can only spend about $1000 per month.
I would prefer a place that is cooler, but I want to be near water either a big lake, river or the ocean. I lived by the beach in CA for 30 years and the one thing I miss most in CO is the ocean and fishing. (The coastal regions of CO are just too hot and humid.)
SO any suggestions would be appreciated.
