Ham radio questions!

Quite suddenly, it seems I am about to become an expat living and working in The Philippines!
I have been offered a position as a marine mechanic, and am about to accept.
I do have a few questions still, but seeing as I will be on my own without family etc I should be able to survive most things!

I am a radio amateur, or Ham, and I was wondering if there were any other hams operating in the Philippines frequenting this forum?

Other questions are
a) would I be able to practice my hobby and how do I go about the licensing requirement? I don't have my log in front of me but I am sure I have had QSO's with stations in the Philippines.
b) I don't have frighteningly expensive radio gear, and I was wondering if I should leave my gear here in South Africa and replace it when I get settled there, which means I wonder how expensive are electronic goods generally in the Philippines? Laptops, pc's etc, and such?
