Alert re Megaworld's Eastwood Housing Complex

The following is excerpted from WhenInManila's Facebook entry today. It seems the housing owner was trying to suppress the FB author from documenting damage to the complex by the typhoon. Another consideration for those of you looking for housing in Metro Manila.

By the way if you use Facebook I suggest you "like" WhenInManila" as I find them to be an excellent source of info for us expats.

Glenda Damage to Eastwood Photos: Megaworld Allegedly Bans Photography to Cover Up Bad Construction

Glenda was one crazy hell of a storm! The winds blowing outside of my house sounded like a shrieking devil, tearing everything apart who dared get in her way!

It was a freak of nature and nothing was spared. Houses, buildings, street lamps, tall metal posts, electrical wires and everything else! I don’t think that people are blaming any construction companies or anyone for what this freak of a typhoon brought onto our city.

Which is why this report of Megaworld allegedly trying to ban people from taking photos of their properties is especially funny. What are they trying to hide if so? Why ban people from sharing information just to know what places we should steer clear from as there may still be debris from the storm?

Is their “brand” and money making more important than giving the public basic information for safety and knowledge?

See the story below from a regular citizen who was just taking photos of the damage caused by Glenda in Eastwood City.

Below is a statement and photos from one of our readers.

I was taking photos of the devastation caused by Glenda in Eastwood City when the guard approached me and asked me to delete the photos. I asked why and his only reply was it is the admin’s order. I said I will not delete the photos and he started arguing with me. Once again I asked him why, and the only answer he could give me is “Admin’s order.” I told him that the reason I was taking photos is because I have relatives abroad and I wanted them to know what’s going on with me despite the typhoon. But he insisted I delete the photos and was blocking my path. Then I said that what they are doing is illegal and no law prohibits me from taking these photos. Hence I just walked away and the guard finally let me do so. Megaworld Corporation is not allowing people to take photos to make sure the structures that were affected by the typhoon are covered up. So I am posting all photos of the destruction caused by typhoon Glenda in Eastwood City developed by Megaworld Corporation…. and to Megaworld Corporation, here’s to you!
