MEDIC CARE

Dutchman in Ph. “Medic care” At my age of 75 I cannot get any health insurance or it will be a rip-off and will only profit of the insurance company. Here in the Philippines I pay PhilHealth contribution as “self employed”. At least some expenses are shouldered by PhilHealth. I just went to the PhilHealth office in Daet (Camarines Norte) and applied for membership. Showing my PRA membership card, LTO driver’s license and Dutch passport. That’s all. Yearly membership fee Pesos 2400

This year I got hospitalized. Was transported by ambulance to St.Johns hospital in Labo (C.N.) Ambulance was (free) shouldered by the municipality of Labo. At St.Johns I had to choose for private room or ward. I took ward. Third floor. No elevator. Janitor pushed me in wheelchair over up-going ramp to the ward. About ten bed per ward. Each hospital bed has a wooden frame bed for family helpers. Family is required to help the patient with all physically needs. Nurses do only medical monitoring (IV checking, dealing prescribed medicines) and so on. My helper stayed over during day and night. Parents sleep with their sick child in the same bed or on the 2nd bed. Hospital food is o.k. Bring your own bed sheets, pillows or blankets. Bring your own plate, mug, cutlery or other needs. Do your dishwashing. Help the patient with shower or what so ever. Medicines are provided by the hospital pharmacy. Doctor will prescribe the medicine. Later you get it billed or you buy it at the hospital pharmacy or in town. This resume is telling you about my own experience. I am o.k. with everything during my stay. Probably this is an eye opener for foreigners. Just try to understand the Pinoy culture in this matter. Greetings, Peter. Dutchman in the Ph.
