Wedding in Japan

Yes I know... this belongs in the 'Japan' forum (and posted it there) but no response. Very little traffic there. Hoping some here might have some experience with Japanese culture..

A while ago my eldest son got married in Japan to his Japanese girlfriend. For the record, they had been living together for years (in Australia) prior to that.

He did ask me to join but could not attend.

When I asked him why I never received an invitation to the wedding (so I could extend my best wishes formally), he replied that no invitation cards were printed.

(Never seen any wedding photos either).

I find that a bit hard to believe and would be the first Asian wedding I know of that doesn't have invitation cards.

I doubt very much that her Japanese family would have gone along with a wedding without invitation cards.

Any comments?
