Automatic Voltage Regulators

Good Evening All,
Several months ago I read a post somewhere about automatic voltage regulators (AVRs). My electronic devices all have the 110/220 volt transformer built into their power supplies. A few months ago while I was visiting the wife I notice the power fluctuations. Is it a good idea to have the TVs/stereos/laptops connected to the power through an AVR to help reduce the fluctuations? Or would 220v surge suppressors work ok?
