Respect our hosts

I have considered writing this for some time but held off not wanting to ruffle feathers. However I think this needs to be said.

We expats are GUESTS in the Philippines. As guest we have absolutely no say in what happens in the Philippines, we are here enjoying the benefits of this beautiful country and then being critical of everything from garbage collection to the President. I personally find this not only highly disrespectful but extremely arrogant. This is not only bad manners, it runs afoul of Philippine law. I have read many post which could easily be interpreted as libel under Philippine law. While non citizens cannot be charged with libel they can be blacklisted and often times are. Filipinos do not tolerate foreigners meddling in their internal affairs. The number one reason for blacklisting is commentating on or involvement in internal affairs. I think assuming this site and others like it are not being monitored is naive. I think there is plenty to comment about without criticizing policies and individuals.

I offer this with the best of intentions and suggest to all please consider what you write as others (expats) are indirectly affected.

Let’s please be thankful and respectful of our hosts.

Respectfully- Earnie
