Can't wait to get there!!

Magandang araw, Hello all..
I am a retired US Army guy and am very interested in moving to the Philippines.. maybe Dumagete? I'm not sure of exactly where yet, my plan is to visit for a month or so and find out in person if I could actually live on my military retirement paycheck alone.
I'm waiting on my passport now.
If all goes as well I hope to just stay there??
...which leads to my question..
I understand that I need to buy a round trip ticket, but say I love it there and my retirement check actually does support an early retirement and I get to just stay there... what do I do with my return flight ticket?
Does anyone have any experience with this?
Is the return portion of the round trip ticket refundable? Sellable?
All advice welcomed and appreciated. Cheers
