VFA Cancellation

The Manila Times reports that RD has ordered the notification to the US that the RP is terminating the VFA agreement asap. Apparently the proximate cause relates to the visa termination of a political ally of RD.

RD must have made a deal with Bejing to soften the economics of this or perhaps substitute the Chinese military for the US military.

What do you think the various effects of this are likely to be? Please give short and long term effects if you can? Does it hurt expats? The peso/$$ exchange rate? RD's re-election chances? And will the US just stop sending aid to the RP and maybe tax remittances?
