I have been in Manila since October 2019 , but am a regular visitor over many years from Canada.
My situation is as follows:
• I am single 55 year old male , no dependents.
• I work on the internet and came here for an extended stay.
• When I left Canada my lease was finished and I do not have a place to return to . Recent checks with online landlords have not been positive as they are reluctant to entertain tenants from abroad – even for short term 1 month room rentals.
• Staying in Philippines is not an issue as it is cheaper for me here and I earn an income.
So the question is – What is the downside or risk to staying in Philippines if the rest of the world is having the same Lock Down issues?
It is clear based on the numbers and experts on CNN that the amount of people getting the infection could be anywhere from 50% of the population to 80%. I believe this and feel it may be better to get it and move on with life without the worry.
Therefore the Risks seem as follows;
Staying in Philippines:
• Being in Long Term Lock Down
• Eventually being forced to Leave by Govt. order
• Getting the Virus and having to require long term hospital care – eg expensive
• Having this Virus blow up so bad that leaving is impossible , maybe for months or years
Going:
• Being in Short to Long Term Lock Down
• Getting Virus and having to require long term hospital care – paid by Govt Health Care
• Possibility of not being allowed back even if leaving in healthy condition
I would be interested in hearing from the single expats who are struggling with the same decision of whether to stay or go.
