Possible Departure Before 13A Becomes Permanent

Howdy All,
I have a question for all of you concerning my current temporary 13A visa. It expires in Sep 2020. I may have to return to the USA for personal reasons before then and not be able to return until after it expires. I do have my ACR-1 card that's good for 5 years. If I do have to depart and my temporary 13A visa expires before I return do I have to start over with it? Or will they just make me pay a fine and continue on with the conversion to permanent status?
