I’m planning to come to the Philippines to settle there for a while, well, as soon as international flights will resume.
I’m wondering which city to choose for renting a house. I’m looking for a quiet place because I work at home. So not a crowded place in downtown. But a safe place. And cheap, which is quite contradictory, I admit.
I’ve been thinking moving in Cavite or Laguna which are within a few hours drive away from Metro Manila and much more affordable and quieter. It’s difficult to find an average rental price of houses in these provinces. Numbeo only gives the rent for apartments and not for all cities. In Cavite, Bacoor, General Trias and Dasmariñas are cheap (USD 100-150 for a 3 bedroom apartment according to Numbeo). About the same prices than in Los Baños and Calamba in Laguna. Santa Rosa and San Pedro (Laguna) are a bit more expensive, probably because they're closer to Metro Manila and along Laguna de Bay, so a bit touristic especially for Santa Rosa.
Generally speaking, are these cities safe? Of course all of them are big and the choice of subdivision in one city will make a difference in terms of safety and quietness. For example in Santa Rosa city, La Joya or Solenad subdivisions are more upscale and hence safer.
I guess the bigger the cities, the noisier. Bacoor or Dasmariñas are probably the less quiet considering their density. Los Baños might be the quietest of them all.
Please correct if I’m wrong. Your experience will be of a great help.
