Hello PH expats! A little about myself, as this is my first post. I want to expatriate to PH, but it will not be for quite some time. I am 50 currently, but am targeting 60 to come over and retire. Therefore, I am starting my planning now watching YT videos, and sourcing other info online. I really only have one major hurdle to get over in order to do that - more on that later.
I grew up in Southern California and was a major juvenile delinquent with multiple felonies on my record by the age of 16 (This is not the hurdle I mentioned earlier, as I was not an adult and my record was expunged).
Long story short, I learned my lessons and have ever sense been a law abiding citizen and I generally try to be a good person while I am being a cog in the big machine that is life in the US.
I work as an IT professional and make well over six figures annual with a nice 401k, a big house that I own, and lots of other expensive toys to sell before I come, so I do not see money as being an issue before I can collect SS.
I have lived abroad before - I lived for four years in Seoul, S. Korea (a very different beast than PH, I know). I even married a Korean girl when I was there and we have been married over 17 years.
And therein lies the rub: When I told here that I would like for us to move to PH, she says flat out "No". She gives no particular reason, but I know from experience that PH is looked down upon by a lot of other Asians. I will keep working on her to change her mind. Maybe a vacation there might change her mind. Here is to hoping...
