I've lived in Pototan for one month now. I could not be happier.
The US dollar goes amazingly far. The people are pleasant and helpful.
I have employed a tutor in an attempt to learn Ilonggo. The tutor comes once a week for an hour. It looks like it will take some time, but I'm learning greetings and phrases that have been helpful so far,
What I can't seem to get used to is the lack of stop signs in Pototan. Every intersection has no signs or lights that signal the right of way. From what I can gather, whoever beeps first has the right of way. As a result, I don't drive anywhere without a driver.
Iloilo city is a different story. It really is quite modern, and the restaurants have been great. SM and Robinsons are like being in Boston.
I have internet service, Cignal TV and aircon at home and my wife's family is generous and kind. I watched the playoffs today. Of course, it started a 5 in the Morning and I had to watch NY and Philly on tape delay at 3 PM, but all in all, I have the best of both worlds and I don't miss the snow.
