Carrying Cash On Arrival In Manila

Okay this may be a simple question, but I've read and heard some horror stories regarding arriving in the Philippines carrying large sums of cash.

Can anyone comment on this and what it is like with customs if you have claimed an amount over the $10K that they can you can carry. What was your experience and if you've done this I would be interested in hearing more about it.

I know that or from what I've read, if you are traveling as a group or with others (say a spouse) the total amount is $10k for the people in the group or (man and wife).

I've looked at the custom forms that they ask you to fill out if the amount exceeds the allowed amount, and there's places on the form that you list the amount and what it is going to be used for such as leisure or a list of other purposes.

I'd like to be able to take more when I travel, I have some things I plan on doing and staying long enough to spend a good amount on it on appliances and air conditioning and stuff like that.

If you've had a previous experience doing this and it has been in the last few year, let me know what it was like and what I should expect on arrival and going through customs..
