Fatal Infections in hospitals

We are planning to retire to Portugal next summer in the Algarve. But we have read about the severe problems Portugal is facing with fatal infections contracted while in the hospital.

Since we will have private insurance I assume that means we would be taken to a private hospital in an emergency. Is that correct? Are the private hospitals experiencing as many fatal infections as the state run hospitals?
