Non-Habitual Resident Tax Status and Golden Visas in Jeopardy?

I came across an article in the Portugal News Online website dated 26/04/18 talking about "Expat Pension and Golden Visa Scrutiny".

More online research turned up a (similar in concept) September 2017 article in the Algarve Daily News:

https://algarvedailynews.com/news/12525-government-to-charge-income-tax-on-all-foreign-residents

Has anyone else been following this news? Does anyone have any further information, insight, or yes, even an opinion on this possible development?

I'm *thinking* that for we newly-minted American temporary resident pensioners that have not yet registered for the NHR, there's no time like the present.

All thoughts and comments welcome.
