Applying for D7 Visa based on Assets not income?

Hi, my husband and I are waiting to submit our D7 Visa until the pandemic situation stabilizes in Portugal. We have done all the paperwork ourselves and feel very fortunate to have a signed "Termo" by friends who have invited us to stay with them. But now wondering if there's a chance that our Application could get rejected as despite having a healthy bank balance and no debt, our only income is from 2 rental properties. We are late 50's and have been self-funded retirees through investments, We weren't planning on applying for Social Security until 67 or 70. From reading the D7 criteria online, it seems that they may want to see income from a stable reliable source, such as IRA's, Pensions et al, none of which we have.. Just Social Security, in the future. A few years ago, I had applied for an Australian Visa and was rejected because of that very reason. Tenant income didn't have that reliable factor, for the banks here, despite having US credit cards for over 30 years and excellent credit scores. So from that experience, I am now wondering if our dreams of Portugal may be fading away! Thought I'd post my inquiry...any feedback immensely appreciated! Thank you!
