Living in Doha, Qatar

The following information is to inform anyone who is considering employment in Doha, Qatar. Transportation.

As other websites have list there is no bus services in Dohaactily there is. Currently the bus services operate about 75 % of the city. In 2002, the Qatari government launched Mowasalat[1], a company 100% owned by the Royal family, managed and operated by the state authorities to ensure the smooth provision of "integrated ground transport services" for the entire country with a growing population of more than 1,400,000 people.

Public buses now service over 35 routes covering most locations of Doha with very minimal fares making public transport in Qatar a thrifty solution to the problems of rush hours and parking difficulties.
Presently, Mowasalat, under the brand-name 'Karwa', now operates more than 3,000 new and well-maintained taxi ( white and green ) sedans including the recently acquired airport taxis with spacious cabins using the 2007 Ford Freestars, and more than 120 public buses, school buses and private-hire coaches. In addition, its Doha Limousine Service has 100 standard (unbranded, no Karwa logo) limousines and 200 (Jaguar XJ) VIP units that are mostly placed at the Doha International Airport and at major hotels

The Public Buses (Mowasalat) started its public bus service first time in QATAR in October 2005 with new high standard vehicles. Mowasalat network has an out reach to cover all areas within the state of QATAR. Mowasalat public bus servie is affordable in a wide range and to all types of people. The buses are available in the main bus station or from any of the bus stops that can be found on the roads. Here is the website to timetables, fares and taxi services. http://eng.mowasalat.com

Remember, most companies will not go in to detail with you about what really matters to most expiates, the cost of daily living here unless you know what to questions to ask. If you have the opportunity to negotiate your salary, you will need a base salary of $115,000.00, (USD) plus an transportation allowances of $500.00 to $700.00 to cover the cost of transportation (taxi, renting or buying a car) in Doha. I will have more information about shopping, the cost of food, household goods etc.

I hope this information helps.
