Need advice, going to work in Alkhobar for SAAD Hospital

Hi all:

I just got my working visa from teh Saudi Embassy and I will be working at SAAD Specialist Hospital in ALKhobar.
I was tld that my family need to stay in the US for a six month period before they can join me overthere. Is this true or necessary?
I was told by the Saudi Embassy that many expats working in KSA get to go with their families on a single trip?

Any advice is appreciated.
