AN AUSTRALIAN AND NORWEGIAN COUPLE MOVING TO AL KHOBAR - WITH OUR DOG

Hello expats of Saudi,

We are currently living in Switzerland but my husband is moving to Al Khobar in a couple of weeks. I will follow in a couple of months. I have a few questions that I would really appreciate feedback on:

1. Dogs - Muslims don't like them I understand but mine comes with us wherever we go. He has all of his rabies injections and he is having his C5 vaccine updated this week. Has anyone bought their dog into the country or know anything about the procedure?

2. Living situation - we have been granted some allowance to bring our furniture, even though my husband's company was going to provide us with furnished accommodation. We did not relish the prospect of selling AUD$50,000 or so worth of furniture. They have not told us anything about the accommodation except that it is an apartment (great, thought I would leave the apartment living behind in Switzerland!). If you tell a company that it is the two of you, plus a dog, plus visits from my husbands two kids from time to time, what sort of 'apartment' can we expect do you think? I know this is a bit of a tricky question to answer, but we have no idea what to expect. The company is the Saudi Arabian Mining company (Ma'aden) and apparently they own apartments in Al Khobar. Anyone know anything about this?

3. I might be able to secure a job in Bahrain and I will live there while my husband lives in Al Khobar. If I don't work, what on earth would I do with my time? Failing that, has anyone know or had success in acquiring work as a female. I am not in the medical industry. I have an MBA and previously worked for HP in Australia in sales (software sales). I am not very technical either, just enough to sell software. I have also been in recruitment. So what do you think?

I am pretty sad about the no alcohol policy. I enjoy my red and will miss the belgium beer we have come to enjoy so much in Australia and Switzerland.

So any feedback would be most welcome. Thanking you all in anticipation of your responses.

Cheers
A
