living part-time in california

I'm looking for advice. I have dual U.S. and U.K. citizenship and moved back to Glasgow in '94. I am now married to a Scotsman for 2 1/2 years and we are considering living in California "part-time" during the year. Does anyone have any advice about how I go about this. How does this affect my U.K. tax? Also if there are expat Californians, especially from the Bay Area I'd love to chat with you.
