Moving to Scotland from Philadelphia

I would like very much to move to Scotland but 1) I don't know how to go about doing it and 2) I've been abroad often enough to understand that Americans typically aren't welcome in other countries (as permanent residents). I've been to a few areas of Scotland and I genuinely do love it and I think that's what should matter but I really am afraid of trying to make the move. Can anyone give me advice? What is it like moving there from here? If anyone on here has moved from here to there, what has the overall reaction been? Are you treated well or are you not welcome? Last but not least, I'm an assistant teacher here, would it be possible to get a similar job there? Any advice would be appreciated!
