I truly hope this does not sound specious, but I am actively seeking answers that will facilitate my moving to Scotland.
I am engaged to an older man from Aberdeenshire who is currently on disability. I am retired and disabled and do receive Social Security/Medicare and have some personal assets, albeit not what anyone would consider well off.
I have read through all the visa requirements, which was mind numbing and somewhat disheartening. Is there any hope that the UK would grant a spousal visa when he is on the public funding rosters and I would be the 'monied' person?
Would I be allowed to enter the IK as an expat retiree with limited finds or is the amount required for a retiree more than what a person would receive through Social Security?
We toyed with the idea of my coming each year for 6 months and then leaving again but that means two residences. And UK disability does not follow a UK citizen here like our SS system provides for travel.
Any help or suggestions would be most welcome. And yes, we do know each other and yes, I have been to Scotland and will be returning for a two month visit this late spring. We are just two older people who want to be with each other for the rest of our lives. I should also mention, I am legally blind. I do travel alone and have the wherewithal to get around if I know what infrastructure is in place.
