Hello,
My name is William Hegwood. My family name was Mayson when they came to settle in Ninety-Six, South Carolina and my 5-great grandfather was Major James Mayson who was, I believe, from Glasgow, Scotland. I am interested in locating any Maysons or descendants of Maysons from in or around Glasgow in the 18th Century in order to put together some of the history that was lost during that time.
I am aware of the land clearances then that affected so many innocent people and I intend to find out at least my ancestors' part in them. I have processed whatever I might learn and don't feel it will ever leave me alone unless I find out. The events during that time unquestionably ruined and changed forever thousands of families. This diaspora is even still scattering and regrouping to this day and, unless I do my part, I feel many of Scotland's sons and daughters will live and die never having known what happened or even wondered.
Thanks to all who are interested in helping me. I am very encouraged about Scotland's future.
Sincerely,
William Hegwood
