How do people make friends in Singapore? (UK)

Hi, I'm from the UK and moved here about four months ago with my husband who is an exchange student at the National University of Singapore. I am working here in a small friendly expat firm but they do not socialise much as they are older then me and have families to take care of. I'm used to partying a lot at home (Newcastle) however, my husband is so busy with his uni work he doesn't have the time and I have found it hard to meet any "gal pals" to socialise with. Anyone got any ideas?
