Public Workshop + Networking: "Bridging Cultural Conflicts: The Why's and Wherefore's"
By Ange Teo of e2m expat etiquette mentoring
A participatory style Workshop that includes a breakfast briefing, open discussions, a brainstorming / short activity and networking. Participants are highly encouraged to share their personal anecdotes too.
What is the purpose of the Workshop?
Conflict incidents have become more common, not necessarily in the workplace. And despite increased contacts between people from different cultural / racial or ethnic / national backgrounds. Yet individuals persist in their behaviour which gets uglier when the shoe is on the other foot. Or when problems are swept aside and then left to fester.
This workshop will outline the following:
1. To understand briefly and recognise the causes of Cultural Conflicts
2. What motivates the “ugly” behaviour in people, eg: Stereotyping, Preconceived Mindsets
3. Explore how we can work together with our colleagues and associates in order to minimise Conflicts
Why attend?
It is a worthy self-investment. By the end of the workshop, participants will have a better understanding of different Cultural Motivations. But most interestingly, explore the different approaches to Intercultural Communication.
In short, this workshop is ideal for the Culturally-savvy and curious individual who wants to know more about what makes other cultures tick.
Date: Monday, 7 September 2009
Time: 9:00 am to 1:00 pm
Venue: Ixora Room, the Peranakan Museum
** FREE entry to the "Baba Bling: The Peranakans and Their Jewellery" that is good on the day itself.
