Singapore School input needed

We are relocating from USA / Dallas TX to Singapore in Sept 2011. I have 2 kids - 6yr and 10 yrs.
I am hearing that Kids have 2 choices - Singapore Local schools or International Schools. International seems to be 20 - 30K per yr.

Any advice on Singapore Local schools? Can kids get admission in local schools?
It is a big shock to kids if they come from US school to Singapore local?
How do I go about the admission process?
