Where to stay in Singapore? East or Central?

We are pretty new to Singapore (today's day 4) and we are looking for a new place to move for our family of 5 (2 of us with 3 kids 3, 6 and 10 years of age).

Would anyone be able to give some suggestions? We have shortlisted bukit timah as it's central or the east as it's nearer to my husband's work.

Budget is around $5k per month
