Greetings fellow Expats.
I was hoping to get some guidance from any fellow American expats living in Madrid as to how realistic / doable my plans are.
I'm sure someone out there has gone through all of this and I'm hoping not to re-invent the wheel here.
I'm a US citizen currently living in Lima Peru, but I'm hoping to re-locate to Madrid in March, or thereabouts (along with my very cute, very portable little dog). Therefore, I have a series of questions that I'm hoping someone can shed some light on.
1. How hard is it to find a job with a company or organization that is willing to sponsor a work permit? I'm completely bi-lingual and hold and master's in Diplomacy. I have been running my own business here in Peru for the past 5 years and have also been giving private english lessons to executives at several multi national companies.
2. Maybe there are headhunters in Madrid that could help me with finding a job? But most job postings I see require EU work papers
3. Will Language institutes or companies sponsor work permits for short term contracts? (I'm open to anything at this point)
4. How tough is it to get private teaching jobs on a tourist visa? An what is the going rate in Madrid for a private native english - speaking teacher?
5. I am finding information on bringing into Spain pets from the US, but what about from Peru? Will he need to be quarantined? (the local consulate has hung up on me 5 times so far, and I'm really sick of their muzak!)
Any perals of wisdom would be greatly appreciated. I'm sort of at a loss.
Rachel
