Hi all - thanks for accepting me into the group.
I have owned an appt in Tarragona province for the last 3 or 4 years which I have used as a holiday home so far.
Now, with retirement not too far away, I am planning to spend more time there - probably NOT more than 6 months per annum but probably not that far short.
And I don't rule out the possibility of spending more than 6 months a year there in the future.
I realise that doing so will bring with it various tax / healthcare / pension / legal considerations which I don't need to go into here.
For now, I basically, have 2 questions. I'm planning to spend most of August in Spain so, if there is anything to be done, that would be a perfect time to do it. It will also likely be my last visit there prior to Brexit on 31/12.
So, my two questions are:-
1) Am I allowed, as someone who is not currently living in Spain, to apply for a TIE? I could say, I suppose, that I am planning to.
2) And if I am allowed, what are the pros and cons of me doing so? What rights and liabilities does having a TIE bestow?
I know the process starts with form ex-17 and will no doubt involve presenting myself and my documents to the local authorities over in Spain.
But I don't know if I can, and more importantly if I should, apply.
Any advice greatly appreciated.
Many thanks
Ian
