Part-time English Teaching

Hola amigos,
Can anyone speak to the importance that Spanish schools place on TEFL/TESOL courses in gaining work as a part-time English teaching assistant? For example, in a junior/elementary school!?
As someone with a degree and graduate degree, I am wary of these online TEFL courses (168hrs for $199) and the quality of their courses (even the reputable ones, such as i-to-i, TEFL Academy). But if these certificates are an absolute 'must have' to get work, I will enrol!?
