Receiving a parcel in Spain as a foreigner

Hi all!

I hope you are doing well! My partner and I have just recently relocated to Spain, Barcelona from Australia. We have sent personal belongings from Australia to our new address in Spain, however, we are unable to retrieve the items because we don't have a NIE/DNI yet.
The items are currently being held at customs and Correos have advised that we need a Spanish resident to help us retrieve our package.

Is this correct? Is there anyone else who could help us? We urgently need these items.
