Travel to Thailand - safety

I am an American expat living in Tokyo and my wife, daughter and I are planning to travel to Phuket and Bangkok for a short vacation and are concerned about safety. We booked our trip before the Bali bombing and now we are unsure whether to go to Thailand given the concerns about terrorism in Southeast Asia. If someone can provide their thoughts or perspectives on travelling to Phuket and Bangkok at this time I would appreciate it.
