We left Th last month after 1 year. Hassles are everywhere. Once a friendly people, now everyone has a chip on their shoulder. Had a Thai man tell me I couldn't park my car in the street, that was for Thai people. He threatened to sick his dog on me. In PH where I can get 6 ninety day visas without leaving. For my $4000 USD retirement in TH, I received 120,000B. Here I get 180,000P AND prices are cheaper. Just stay out of Manila.
Cebu has a lot of westerners and all the comforts of home: golf, casino, good housing, great restos, excellent malls and now international flights.
We often ride the ferry to Bohol for great diving, beachy dinners and Oceanside rooms on the cheap. Just had three crowns replaced: $305 USD TOTAL. Nice job too.
Cebu has many international schools with Eng or US curriculum.
There is a drug problem in one run down section of town but not throughout the city. And be forward with the taxis before you get in, they want beer money. It's best if you negotiate than use the meter.
But that's the worst of it. Once you get around and talk to a few people, it's easy. Good expat groups for sport and recreation.
