Coming to Thailand as US citizens for few mos from Panama

Hello we will be Coming to Thailand as US citizens for few mos from Panama sometime early Feb and plan to stay for at least 4-8 weeks.

How does the visa work? Is there any special thing we need to do besides the paperwork you normally fill out on the plane before you land? And does coming from Panama make a difference? I think we will be flying thru NY anyway..

And can we buy a one way ticket and decide when to go back or do we have to have a return ticket upon entrance to Thailand?
