closing thai bank account

Has anyone had trouble closing their Thai bank account and wiring the money to an account outside of Thailand? When I began investigating a move to Bangkok, I read that banks would only wire the money outside of Thailand if the account holder could prove that the money was earned in Thailand. Since I would be a retiree, I wouldn't be able to provide such proof. Thus, there would be no way for me to do a wire transfer. Withdrawing the funds from an ATM and carrying it on one's person is neither practical nor safe.
