Work permit is taking so long to process 3 month stay is almost at an end

I am a british expat living in the Netherlands. My girlfriend moved here from the US at the end of November 2005 and was offered a job with my employer. However the company has taken so long to make her workpermit application (lodged with the lawyers and CWI last week) that here 3 month stay is almost up. My employer estim ate that the work permit may take another 3 to 3 weeks. I am unable to sponsor her residence permit as my divorce in the UK is not yet finalised. Can anyone please give me advice whether the 3 month stay can be extended an/or if there is any way I can sponsor her for a residence permit which allows working?
