Transporting pets/furniture from US?

Hi..my husband is Dutch and I'm American...we've been living in the US but are moving to Netherlands in October...I'm wondering if anyone has transported animals and/or furniture from the US and what your experience was...the cost, the service you used...would you use again? Any info would be greatly appreciated.
