rental agent fees

we are trying to rent a house inthe Netherlands where we will be moving next month with our loarge family and 3 pets. So far we have not had a lot of luck online except through rental agencises who charge a full months rent (over $1000 in our case) and I just am hoping that this is avoidable. We really cannot afford this fee.
