Family moving to Uganda: accommodation

Hi,

I am hoping to move to Kampala in September with my wife and two young sons (1&4). I have lots of questions, but thought I would split them up so they aren't too overwhelming.

1) My work will be based in Nakasero - where should I be looking for houses to live in?

2) Are most expat houses in secure communities? I'm disinclined to live behind bars, but what are the advantages/disadvantages to doing so?

3) What should I be expecting to pay per month for rent? And does that include the maid/security guard/gardener? Do these people 'come with the house'?

4) What's the electricity like? I believe it gets cut off regularly - does everyone have a generator? To what degree does this effect your life?

5) I read one posting about internet connections, recommending vodafone, and quoting quite a lot of for the connection fee per month. Is this still valid? How reliable is it? Will skyping to Australia/Canada be OK?

6) What have I missed (lots!) - what advise would you have about accommodation?

Thanks again (again!) for addressing our concerns, I am really looking forward to our stay in Uganda.

Sincerely,
Tiest
