Costs of living

Hi,

How much can a 3 member family (daughter of 6) expect to need, to cover a monthly costs of living? I mean alltogether that is needed for a decent living: home, food, gas, telephone, internet... you name it.
Beside that, I have seen the range of salaries is amazing. What's the deal with that?
How much can a computer network specialist with a decent Canadian experiance expect to earn at the begining?
