child care & school calendar year queries

Hi!

Can anyone please tell me what month the school year starts? I am from Australia with a year10 girl. I am hoping she can do the equivalent of our year 11 so she doesn't lose a year of school.

I also have a 3 year old. Do they have good child care facilities and if so are they safe? Or do they have good nannies etc. Both my husband and I plan to work.
