Moving to be with partner in UAE

I've got so many questions I'll just go for it shall I

My partner has lived / worked in AD since October. He's asked me to consider moving out there to join him. We're not married, I have a 7 year old son from a previous relationship who needs schooling as well as time with mum. My partner is British Indian, my son and I are white British, so many things about this seem not to fit with UAE tradition and law. I don't want this to be a disasterous decision and for everyone. Advice from any people who have overcome similar issues would be grately appeciated.
