Exchange US$ for UK£

Due to a future US move I have UK £ currency in my UK account that I want to move to my US account. Checking exchange rates it seems a complete waste to do this through travelex or a bank as a spot rate of 1.79 yields only about 1.71 so I lose too much money, equally someone transfering $ to £ will have to pay 1.86 or so going the other way. Rather than being ripped off I am looking for someone who has a similar issue - they want to move US$ to the UK and are interested in exhanging a few thousand at the spot rate.

Of course I am concerned about this being a genuine and secure exchange so I am only interested in dealing with someone I can visit at their home and they can visit mine - I'm based in Weybridge, Surrey so someone close only please.
