US social worker relocating to UK

I have been actively researching my move to the Uk, does anyone know what yearly the british island and council taxes will run me? also, do I need to pay US and UK taxes, any breaks? Additionally, i have a home here and am contemplating selling or letting, any idea which is better (horror stories or advice please). Also, my son can apply for british citizenship, would it be easier for him there in school to switch as he is 13? how will 45,000 pds do for salary in somerset for us? confused and sleepless in seattle. hee hee
