Visa Dilemma

I am a recent college graduate with a degree in English. I have made many close friends on my multiple trips to the United Kingdom, and I would love a chance to live and work there. The more I've looked into getting a visa and finding a job, the more impossible it seems!
From what I understand you need an employer in the UK to sponsor you for a visa, however you need a visa to obtain employment. Could someone please give me some advice on how to go about successfully applying for a work visa so that I can make my dreams a reality??? Right now I'm completely confused by the whole process. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
