Possible move to Liverpool

My husband may be getting his masters at University of Liverpool and bringing me and our two young children over with him. We would be there for a year while he is in school. I was wondering what the city is like for a young family. Are there certain neighborhoods we should stay away from? Any advise you can give will be helpful! Thanks in advance!
